Anomalocaris
Anomalocaris, sometimes called the abnormal shrimp, is an extinct genus of Anomalocaridid, a family of animals thought to be closely related to ancestral arthropods. Its fossils were 1st discovered in 1892, and this is the very first fossil that was ever found that is now residing in the Royal Ontario museum. It was the world's 1st ultimate predator. It lived in the Cambrian period 535 million years ago. Its subspecies were A. Briggsi, A. Canadensis, A. Pennsylvanica, and A. Saron. I've first heard about this animal in Walking With Monsters, a Tim Haines series that came out in 2005. They comprise a group of very early marine animals known primarily from fossils found in Cambrian deposits including China, United States, Canada, Poland, and Australia. In Walking With Monsters, the Cambrian explosion took place in China. Their favorite prey of course is trilobites, ancient arthropods that are distant relatives of insects, lobsters, and scorpions. The 1st vertebrate ever to live is Haikouichthys, our earliest known ancestor.
