The Carolina parakeet or Carolina conure was a small green neotropical parrot with a bright yellow head, reddish orange face, and a pale beak and was North America's only native parrot. It ranged from Southern New York to Wisconsin to Kentucky to Tennessee and to the Gulf of Mexico. It was also found from the Atlantic seaboard as far west as Eastern Colorado. The parakeet was a pest due to eating crops including apples. The last wild specimen was shot in 1904 as a pest and the last wild ones were Incas and Jane and they were from the Cincinnati zoo. In 1917, Jane died and in February 1918 Incas also died. There were feathers sort out for hats that were developed in markets in both America and Europe.
