The Malagasy hippo or Malagasy dwarf hippopotamus or Malagasy pygmy hippopotamus lived on the island of Madagascar but is now believed to be extinct in 1000 a.d. which is also when the giant aye-aye was declared extinct. The various species are believed to have survived until the Holocene era.
