The Iriomote cat (Prionailurus Iriomotensis) is a possible subspecies of the leopard cat living exclusively on the Japanese island of Iriomote. It's listed as critically endangered in 2008 and there are fewer than 250 individuals left. In Japanese, it is called "Iriomote-Yamaneko." It is one of the 4 most endangered cats of Asia along with the Amur leopard, South China tiger, and Asiatic cheetah. It was first described in 1967 and the specimen that was described is mounted at the Museum of Nature and Science in Tokyo. Other Prionailurus cats include the Rusty-spotted cat, Flat-headed cat, and Fishing cat.
