The dodo is an extinct member of the pigeon family native to Mauritius, East of Madagascar, and it went extinct in the 1600's. People thought they were stupid but they were actually smart. They apparently fed on rocks and berries and their stomachs grind the food. People thought they were delicious to eat. The first time people settles into Mauritius was in September 1598.
