The Mediterranean polecat or Iberian polecat is a small subspecies of the European polecat native to the Southern and Western parts of the Iberian peninsula and Northern Morocco in Northwest Africa. It has yellowish underfur and may be the ancestral subspecies from which the ferret is derived, based on the characteristics of the teeth. It was 1st described in 1904 by Barret Hamilton.
