Santa Lucian giant rice rat
The Santa Lucian giant rice rat (Megalomys Luciae) is another extinct subspecies of the giant rice rat and is one of the 5 extinct subspecies in the Caribbean along with the Barbuda, Curacao, Martinique, and Barbados. It was declared extinct in the 1850's and officially declared extinct in 1881. Santa Lucia is in the Eastern part of the Caribbean. There is a specimen in the collection of the London natural history museum and this specimen from this picture is probably the one. The last Honshu wolf that was killed is probably in the London natural history museum. The Martinique was the last subspecies to survive.
