The Asian sand badger (Meles Lecurus) is another Meles badger native to China, Kazakhstan, Mongolia, Korea, and Russia and has 5 subspecies. They have a lighter color than the European badger (Meles Meles). Europeans and Asians both coexist in the western part of Russia and Afghanistan. The last of the 3 Meles badgers is the Japanese badger (Meles Anakuma) of Honshu, Shikoku, Kyushu, and Shodoshima. A badger's burrow is called a sett.
