The American marten (Martes Americana), also known as the American pine marten, is a North American member of the Mustelid family. It has 13 subspecies, including Newfoundland pine martens and more. The other pine marten is the European pine marten. Other species include the Fisher, Sable, Japanese, Nilgiri, Beech, and Yellow-throated martens. Martens are closely related to wolverines, badgers, and skunks.
