The Kenai peninsula wolf (Canis Lupus Alces) or Kenai peninsula gray wolf is an extinct subspecies of gray wolf or Canis Lupus native to the Kenai peninsula in Southern Alaska. It observed in the 1890's and went extinct in 1925, which is also the year when the Wisconsin cougar (Puma Concolor Schorgeri) was declared extinct. This wolf from this picture is kinda similar to the Antarctic wolf. It was the largest of all North American wolves. At first, I thought the dire wolf was the largest wolf ever by standing up to 3 ft tall but the Kenai peninsula wolf was the largest wolf ever because it was 4 ft tall.
Yeah that's my biggest question. I don't know why people keep saying that dire wolves are the largest subspecies of wolves ever walked the earth. Dire wolf weight 150 pounds on average. The Kenai peninsula wolf is larger than that. The Kenai peninsula wolf weighted 200 pounds on average that a lot bigger than the dire wolf. I would say that the dire wolf become famous because of the Game of Throne.
ReplyDeleteDire wolves may not be the largest wolves ever walked the earth but they are the heaviest wolf subspecies. Dire wolf weighting 150 pounds is on AVERAGE. The largest subspecies of Dire wolves are estimated to reach 243 pounds. That about 110kgs. Dire wolves also have the strongest bite of all canines. They have bite force around 163 Bfq.
