The Eastern cougar or Eastern puma (Puma Concolor Cougar) is an extinct wild cat native to Eastern Canada and the US. It would have preyed on the recently extinct eastern elk which died in the 1800's and the Eastern cougar was declared extinct in April, 2011. It is one of the 2 extinct cougars and the other extinct cougar is the Wisconsin cougar, which was declared extinct in 1925. The cougar was distinctive by the spots on its belly. As of 2015, the cougar was again declared extinct. This is a picture of a cougar in New Hampshire that should not have been there. These cougars were practically found in every East coast state. Not to be confused with the endangered Florida panther, which lives in Southern Florida. Cougars were found everywhere throughout the USA, Mexico, Central and South America. It is one of the 8 extinct mammals that may still be alive along with the Thylacine, Baiji, Javan tiger, Japanese river otter, Mexican grizzly bear, Japanese wolf, and Cuban solenodon.
