The Southern river otter is an endangered species of otter native to Southern South America. Although a river otter, it lives in both freshwater and marine environments. Sometimes, it's considered a subspecies of the North American otter. The Southern river otter is one of the 3 otters native to South America and the giant otter and Southern river otter are both endangered but we don't know if the Neotropical otter is endangered.
