The ring tailed cat (Bassaricus Astusus) is a cat/civet-like animal in the Procyonidae genus native to The Western USA and Mexico. The ring tailed cat is the state mammal of Arizona and this is a ringtail in Phoenix, Arizona. Although they may look like cats, but they are actually related to raccoons and other Procyonids. They are mistakenly called civet cats after similar, though unrelated, cat-like omnivores of Asia and Africa. Its closest relative is the cacomistle and the 4 subspecies are the Arizona, Common, Mexican, and Nevada.
