Sakhalin husky
The Sakhalin husky or Karafuto-Ken is a probably extinct dog breed native to the Russian island of Sakhalin and Japan. The husky's claim to fame came from the ill-fated 1958 Japanese research expedition for Antarctica, which made an emergency evacuation and was forced to leave behind 15 sled dogs; Riki, Anko, Aka, Kuma, Pesu, Goro, Deri, Pochi, Moku, Jakku, Kuro, Shiro, Taro, and Jiro. This is Jiro at the Museum of Nature and Science in Tokyo. There are only 38 extinct dog breeds and these sled dogs probably fought of Hokkaido (Ezo/Sakhalin) wolves. Taro and Jiro were the only dogs to survive.
