The Barbary macaque is an endangered species of macaque native to the Atlas mountains of North Africa and introduced to the Spanish island of Gibraltar in Europe. They are the only free living primates in Europe like the other macaques of Japan and Taiwan. It is one of the best known old world monkeys.
