The red crowned crane (Grus Japonensis), also known as the Japanese crane or Manchurian crane, is a large East Asian crane and among the rarest cranes in the world. It mainly lives in Siberia, Northeastern Mongolia, Manchuria, Korea, Taiwan, and Hokkaido, Japan. It is listed as endangered as of 2006 of up to 2,400 birds remaining in the wild. They are among the largest birds in Japan.
