American mink

The American mink, also known as the common mink, is a mustelid native to North America and introduced to Europe and South America. It is one of the 2 mink species alive today along with the critically endangered European mink. In 2005, 15 subspecies were recognized. Its extinct relative, the sea mink, was larger, longer, and heavier. All mink species are solitary. The sea mink lived on the Atlantic coast of North America and was declared extinct in 1894.
