Irish elk

The Irish elk (Megaloceros Giganteus) is an extinct species of deer in the genus Megaloceros. It ranged from Ireland to China and is one of the largest deer that ever lived. It is called the Irish elk because its fossils were first found in Ireland. It was more closely related to their living species including elk (known in North America as the moose). It went extinct in 8,000 BC, during the beginning of writing. Prehistory usually means "The time before writing."
